Dining rooms

A wonderful antique dining table is fabulous with modern chairs and a crystal chandelier

I try to find chairs that have a unique element. "It might be the shape of the chair, the carving on the arms or legs, or perhaps it's a simple Scandinavian modern style chair that I jazz up with an unconventional fabric

Another thing to consider is using the appropriate scale of light fixture to dining table. "While I think it can be fun to use an oversized fixture with a smaller table, the worst thing you can do is use a fixture that is too small

What else makes a formal dining room special?Lighting. "Flexible and fabulous lighting is one of the most important elements. The central fixture of the room should be a focal point that points the way to the celebration and causes your guests to take notice.

I like the decorative mirrored designs used on the walls because of the sense of grandeur it creates in the space.

A good designer can use the colors, shapes and patterns to which you are drawn to help you understand your likes and dislikes. "That's half the battle and certainly a step in the right direction away from the mundane

The typical formal dining room is generally used most often on special occasions for entertaining and needs to say to your guests that they are being treated to something special

Homeowners should view the dining room as an investment
It's the one room in the house that doesn't see overuse, and it typically maintains its appearance for many years
